Karl Tipp began his piano studies at the Paide Music School in the class of Astrid Sild. After completing his piano studies, he continued at the same school, studying saxophone under Olavi Oismann. From 2011 to 2015, he studied classical saxophone at the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School.
Karl Tipp began his composition studies in 2015 at the Ots School under Tatjana Kozlova-Johannes. At the same time, he studied classical saxophone at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EAMT) under Virgo Veldi.
He also furthered his skills at the Ots School by taking a music production course taught by Taavi Paomets.
He has participated in a masterclass with Fabio Nieder and attended the Creative Lab (Loomelabor) summer course, where his mentors were Tauno Aints, Maria Kõrvits, and Liis Viira.
Karl Tipp has sung in the boys’ choir Kalev, as well as in the mixed choirs HUIK! and NUKU.
In his creative work, he focuses on the conflicts between society and nature.
He is also interested in blending the timbres of different instrumental groups. Vocal techniques and the expressive possibilities of language play an important role in his music.
His compositions often incorporate microtonality and electronics.
Choral and chamber music hold a central place in his oeuvre.
