Viktoria Grahv is a composer and poet. She was born in 1984 in Sonda Parish, Ida-Viru County, Estonia. Her musical studies began in 1991 at the Kiviõli School of Arts, where she studied piano. Grahv began composing in 2017, when she enrolled in the composition programme at the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School, studying under Tatjana Kozlova-Johannes. She has also graduated from the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy with a degree in music education (supervisor Guldžahon Jussufi) and obtained a master’s degree in composition, cum laude, from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (Prof. Helena Tulve).
Grahv’s music is characterised by a sensitivity to sound, rich colours, dreamlike fragility, and unexpected solutions. In her work, she seeks ways to reflect poetic texts and states of mind through music. Alongside music, poetry is an important form of creative expression for Viktoria Grahv. In 2022, her first collection of poetry, Une-eelne (Presleep), was published.
Grahv’s works have been performed by YXUS Ensemble, the Tallinn New Music Ensemble, Ensemble U:, Ludensemble, Ensemble Alekton, the Quarter Tone Ensemble (Armenia), the Lumière Vocal Ensemble (Latvia), and others.
Her works have been performed at festivals including Estonian Music Days, Üle Heli, the Suure-Jaani Music Festival, the COMMUTE festival, Athens Digital Arts Festival (Greece), SiMN – International Symposium of New Music (Brazil), the Ottawa International Animation Festival (Canada), Crossroads 2026 (Armenia), Creative Dialogue (Finland), and others.
In 2024, Grahv’s work Su looriäär üle läve (The Edge of Your Veil Across the Threshold) won the Grand Prix in the competition for female composers organised by the chamber choir Voces Tallinn. Her trio Aia arheoloogia (The Archeology of the Garden) also received the Grand Prix in the composition competition of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
