The Norwegian record label Smalltown Supersound Records has released “HAIHARA”, the new album by Robert Jürjendal and Arve Henriksen, a project that began as early as 2018. The album was recorded in Haihara, a small district near Tampere, Finland, and in Mölnlycke, Sweden.
The material for “HAIHARA” was created while Jürjendal was in an artist residency in Finland at the invitation of the Tampere City Government. In a small house on the edge of a forest by a lake, intense recording sessions took place, resulting in a full album’s worth of music within a week. Arve Henriksen added layers of trumpet, vocals, and electronics, enriching the compositions with his distinctive musical sensibility.
Composers and musicians Robert Jürjendal (guitar, electronics) and Arve Henriksen (trumpet, keyboards, electronics) first collaborated in 2013, when they created the film score album “Victoria”, inspired by the works of Knut Hamsun. They also shared the stage at the 2018 Jõuluazz festival alongside percussionist Madis Metsamart, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, and conductor Kaspars Putniņš.
Although the album’s release was delayed for several years due to the pandemic, “HAIHARA” is now available both physically in LP format and digitally.
