Maria Mölder

Maria Mölder is a music editor and professional language editor. She graduated from Tallinn Music High School with a degree in music theory and from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with a BA in musicology and an MS in arts management. She has furthered her studies in radio work, creative industries (including creative clusters), music entrepreneurship and start-up entrepreneurship, and is currently studying for a master’s degree in linguistics and language editing at Tallinn University.

Distinguished career achievements

Maria has written music criticism for many publications and has been working as a music editor for the cultural magazine Sirp since 2016. Maria has written articles for the books “Kaheksa portreed. Eesti heliloojad 1” (“Eight Portraits. Estonian Composers 1”), “Pärimusmuusikast popmuusikani” (“From Folk Music to Pop Music”, the first Estonian musicological study of popular music), etc. The Estonian Institute has published an overview book “The Estonian Music World” with text by Maria Mölder (in Estonian, English, Finnish and Hungarian). She has broadcast on Klassikaraadio and worked there as an editor in charge. From 2009 to 2011, Maria initiated a series of programmes on Estonian alternative music called “Areaal” (co-hosted by Tõnu Karjatse and Tauno Maarpuu). From 2007 to 2019 Maria was the editor of the Estonian Music Days and from 2009 to 2014 she worked for the Estonian Composers’ Union. She has coordinated contemporary music concerts at Tallinn Music Week and has been a delegate of the International Society for Contemporary Music. She has written and edited many festival and concert booklets and written encyclopaedia articles. Maria Mölder is a member of the Estonian Composers’ Union and the Estonian Musicological Society.
